Chapter 1: Installing RealProducer Plus
Installing RealProducer Plus is quick and easy. You can download RealProducer Plus from the RealNetworks Web site or install it from a CD-ROM. This chapter outlines what you need to run RealProducer Plus and shows you how to install it on your computer.
System Requirements
This section outlines the basic hardware and software requirements needed to run RealProducer Plus. Requirements are based upon whether you are recording from existing media files or from media devices.
This version of RealProducer Plus runs on the following operating systems:
- Microsoft® Windows® 95
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 3)
- Microsoft Windows 2000
Requirements for Recording from Files
The following table lists the minimum and the recommended requirements for converting existing audio and video files into RealMedia files:

Requirements for Recording from Media Devices
Whether you are broadcasting or recording RealMedia files for later use, recording from live media requires greater computer power than recording from media files. The following tables list the minimum and recommended requirements for recording either Single Rate or SureStream from media devices.

Other Requirements
In addition to normal hardware and software requirements, you must have the following:
- the latest version of RealPlayer®
- speakers or headphones connected to your sound card
For recording from a media device, any of the following connected to your computer:
- VHS, S-VHS, or Beta-SP video player
- Digital Video Disk (DVD) player
- video camera
- microphone
How to Install
Follow this procedure to install the product onto your computer.
To install RealProducer Plus:
- Download the installation program, or insert the CD-ROM into your drive.
- Close any other applications that may be open and double-click on the installation program icon.
The installer begins by preparing your system for RealProducer Plus. When complete, the installer opens to the Software License page.
- Read the terms and conditions carefully, and click Accept if you agree. You can click Cancel at any time to abort the installation.
- Enter your e-mail address in the appropriate field.
- Modify the directory RealProducer Plus will install into by clicking the Browse button and selecting the new path.
- Enter the serial number you received when you purchased RealProducer Plus.
- Click Finish.
The install program installs all necessary programs and opens RealProducer Plus.
